Samsung filed a patent for a next-generation Galaxy Ring able to measure temperature

Samsung is setting up to expand the smart wearable ring family by introducing a new smart ring that can measure the temperature of human bodies and objects.

Last year, Samsung debuted its ever-first wearable smart ring called Galaxy Ring, and now it is looking forward to expanding the lineup. A new report from 91Mobiles revealed that the Korean tech giant has filed a patent on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Reportedly, the patent hints that the ring has a special sensor placed on the inner side facing the user’s finger to detect temperatures. The ring also includes a motion sensor; for instance, an accelerometer, that tracks finger movements, this will make the compatible to understand what it is measuring.

If you bring the ring near another person or object, the sensor will turn on and can even tell if it’s measuring your skin temperature or the temperature of something else. This feature seems convenient as it prevents the ring from misunderstanding the body temperature with the temperature of the external object. The ring is anticipated to deliver accurate readings by knowing whether it’s measuring the user’s skin or the surface of something else.

It’s also expected that if the ring detects unusual temperature readings then it could alert the user in different ways; for instance, by sending a notification through vibrations, sounds, or lights. The company is also focusing on making the ring compatible with tracking body temperature to predict menstrual cycles. Although, currently the things are under patent, so it remains to see whether the revealed sensors will come into existence with the coming Galaxy Ring.
