Samsung’s newly filed patent for its first rollable screen phone gets approved

Samsung is planning to debut its first tri-foldable smartphone, called Galaxy G Fold, and vertically-rolling phones, and it has granted a patent in the US for a smartphone with a rollable display.

A few days back, the Korean tech giant filed a patent that includes a design for the rollable display that expands vertically, opening up the possibility of reshaping the future of smartphone design. Now, finally, the patent is approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent includes technical drawings showcasing the shape of the device in a collapsed state. A reliable tipster, @xleaks7, and AI platform DomoAI have revealed the first look of the device that seems quite similar to the current Galaxy Z Flip 6.

The device has a rollable display with the ability to expand the screen vertically. However, the integrated roll mechanism of the device makes it thicker than regular Galaxy devices. It will feature quite thin screen bezels, whereas the chin below will be thick due to the presence of a roll mechanism.

Samsung is expected to offer a dual camera setup with a flashlight, similar to what the Galaxy Z Flip line offers. Although the original design does not include any physical buttons, the simulation has added a button on the right side, but the detail is not confirmed yet, and better to take it as an illustrative idea.

Apart from this, the patent design doesn’t reveal any major or notable facts. Currently, the device’s design is blowing in the patent phase, so it will be interesting to see whether the company will make the device available for commercial purposes.
