Samsung removes predictive back with new internal One UI 8 beta

Samsung recently released the latest Android 16-based One UI 8 beta update for the Galaxy S25 series in selected regions that removes the previously available predictive back gesture feature.

The Predictive Back Gesture feature offers users a preview of their destination while using the back gesture. This helps when swiping back, the current view shimmers, and a preview of the previous screen is displayed in the background, letting you decide if you want to continue with the back gesture or stay in the current view.

The Korean tech giant introduced the predictive back feature with the Android 15-based One UI 7, however, only for the Google applications, as it was not compatible with the system UI and any other apps. It was supposed that the company is looking forward to extending its compatibility with stock apps, also with the latest One UI 8 beta version, but that’s not the case anymore.

A new report from one of the reliable tipsters, Tarun Vats, revealed that the latest One UI 8 firmware version for the Galaxy S25, which ends with ZYF1, lacks the predictive back gesture. However, it could be possible that Samsung disabled the feature, particularly in this version of the firmware, to test something out. Also, this firmware is yet to go official, the company may offer it with the official release or with the next beta release.

Since Samsung has yet to release any official word regarding the spotted firmware that lacks the predictive back gesture feature, it remains to be seen whether the company will remove it or extend its compatibility with more apps.
