Your Samsung Galaxy Watch Might Lock Your Phone If You Leave It Behind

Samsung Galaxy Watch users, get ready for a more secure experience via a new feature that automatically locks your phone when it’s left behind.

Currently, Samsung is looking forward to introducing its next-generation smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch 8 & Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Galaxy Z Flip 7, next month at the Unpacked event.

Meanwhile, a new report from one of our reliable colleagues, Android Authority, revealed that Google is developing a feature that automatically locks your Android phone when your Wear OS smartwatch detects you have left the phone behind.

Reportedly, a few code strings that hint at the feature were spotted in the latest version of the Pixel Watch app with the dedicated version number 3.5.0.758720535. It also contains the message “Phone will lock when it disconnects from your watch, like when it’s far away.”

Currently, the Pixel Watch has the ability to unlock the connected phone automatically when it is within range but is not compatible with locking the phone when the two devices are not in each other’s range. Noticeably, the Galaxy Watch has yet to receive this feature, but not for long, since the new feature is in development that helps all the smartwatches based on Wear OS to lock the Android smartphones, including Galaxy phones.

This feature will add an extra layer of security and prevent the smartphone from unauthorized access when you mistakenly leave it behind. Currently, the feature is in the development stage, but it is expected that soon it will be released for all Wear OS smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch lineup. Potentially, Samsung could adopt this feature with the upcoming Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch update.
