One UI 8 Could Bring HDR Screenshot Capability

Samsung Galaxy S25 series is currently testing out the latest One UI 8 beta program that runs Android 16 on top, with two beta builds already released. Since the company is performing various internal tests of the One UI 8 build for selective Galaxy devices, a new feature named HDR screenshots has come to light via the latest (internal) beta build.

Basically, Google has introduced a new HDR Screenshots feature with Android 16, where the screenshots captured with any HDR content will be saved in a true HDR format (for example, a PNG file), while also integrating HDR gain maps. Once viewed, these screenshots will automatically brighten up the phone’s screen to make HDR highlights pop off.

Meanwhile, it appears like Samsung is already testing HDR screenshot support for One UI 8 with the latest internal beta build. Specifically, a user, ICE CAT on X, shared that right after installing the newest One UI 8 beta carrying the ZYF7 build on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it was noticed that this build contains support for HDR screenshots.

Beyond this, the user has also stated that after capturing a screenshot of an HDR photo, the screenshot retains its HDR effect completely and pops up just like the original photo. However, the HDR screenshot support is spotted with the internal beta version mentioned above and is not even available in the One UI 8 Beta 2 (ZYF3) build.

Well, this feature surfaced in the One UI 8 internal beta testing; hopefully, Samsung could add this functionality in the upcoming public beta release and also in the stable One UI 8 release.
