South Korea’s popular carrier KT has launched a new service that will provide real-time protection against scams on phone calls.
The company named the service “AI Voice Phishing Detection Service 2.0,” which integrates “speaker recognition” and “deep voice detection.” As the name suggests, the scam protection function is based on AI.
The KT’s AI voice phishing detection service 2.0 is available on Samsung’s Galaxy S23 and later models. In case you are using other carrier services, you can still use them through the “WhoWho” application.
It is worth noticing that the service provider has been running its spam filter since last year. Now, with the latest development, it has introduced new features like speaker recognition that analyzes voiceprint information based on actual reported voices of voice phishing criminals provided by the national forensic service to detect criminal activity.
Secondly, the service also includes “deep voice detection,” which identifies voice modulations generated using AI text-to-speech technology. With these fresh features, the service aims to protect its user base from the annual financial loss of around KRW 200 billion with 95% accuracy.
