Samsung is now looking forward to building more durable foldable displays to offer a stronger, smarter, and more reliable next generation of Galaxy Z Fold devices.
Back in July this year, Samsung launched its seventh-generation foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Currently, it is actively gearing up to launch its first-ever multi-folding smartphone, named Galaxy Tri-Fold, by the end of this year.
If the company carries on its Galaxy Z Fold series, then Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 foldable phones are supposed to launch in early Q3 2026. Meanwhile, a new report reveals that Samsung Display has filed a new patent, suggesting the firm is planning a foldable built with durability in mind.
Samsung is now considering introducing more smart, durable, and reliable displays to its next-generation foldable phones for a better user experience. For this, instead of just making the screen bendable, it is strategizing how the layers inside can handle repeated folding without degrading.
According to the patent, protective layers, support structures, and heat management are the crucial elements that are all included to keep the screen stable and resistant to stress. This hints at the display that lasts much longer with fewer permanent creases and fewer dust-related issues.
The company is also working on enhancing the way users interact with the screen and placing fingerprint sensors and other inputs under the display, which will be convenient for keeping interactions smooth even as the device bends.
However, these improvements have currently appeared in a Patent; it remains to be seen whether the company will bring these foldable display upgrades to the commercial market.
