Samsung invests $110 million to expand Galleri Test to key Asian markets

Samsung is now actively working on expanding its presence in the healthcare sector, for which it is investing $110 million in an American biotechnology company, Grail, to bring early cancer detection services to more regions.

The Korean tech giant has already introduced several convenient health monitoring features to enhance user experience. Now, it is looking forward to expanding the early cancer detection service to more regions while creating new opportunities in digital health.

Samsung announced that it is investing in GRAIL Inc. to bring the Galleri multi-cancer early detection test to key Asian markets. Samsung C&T and GRAIL will work as exclusive partners to commercialize the Galleri test in South Korea, and once the project is done successfully, it will be expanded to other Asian geographies, including Japan and Singapore.

One of the most popular products of Grail is the Galleri blood test, which is capable of detecting at least 50 types of cancer early with a single blood test. The test examines microscopic DNA fragments in the blood using AI-based genome data technology, which efficiently predicts the presence or absence of cancer.

Regarding this, the Vice President of Samsung C&T Life Science Business, Kim Jae-woo, stated, “Grail is the leading company in the field of early diagnosis of multiple cancers based on genes. Through this investment and strategic collaboration, Samsung C&T has created an opportunity to expand its bio/healthcare investment portfolio into the field of technology that combines genes and AI.”
