Samsung is one of the leading brands in the smartphone camera segment, and now its dominance is at stake, as its rival, Sony, is gearing up to launch a 200MP camera sensor larger than Samsung’s.
Samsung and Sony are the strongest players in the ultra-high-resolution camera sensor market. The Korean tech giant was the very first to launch a 200MP camera sensor for smartphones in 2022, which was initially used in the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. However, later it was used in Samsung’s own Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone.
On the rivalry side, to date, Sony has dedicatedly focused on the 50MP camera sensors for phones, but now it has finally decided to enter in 200MP camera sensor segment. A tipster, FeniBook, via his X handle, revealed that Sony started gearing up for its first 200MP camera sensor for mobile devices, which is supposed to be named the LYT-910.
According to the report, Sony’s LYT-910 sensor could be a 1/1.11-inch sensor with an individual pixel size of 0.7µm. It’s expected to capture 50MP and 200MP resolution images through pixel binning, offer 2x and 4x lossless-quality zoom shots & superior HDR performance with a dynamic range of over 100db, and 4K 120fps and 8k 30 fps video recording with HDR.
On the comparison side, Samsung’s biggest 200MP camera sensor is the ISOCELL HP1, which measures 1/1.22-inch. Although its best 200MP sensor is the ISOCELL HP2, which measures 1/1.4-inch. Up to date, Samsung was leading the market alone; now, Sony is gearing up to stand strong against the Korean giant.
