Samsung to offer AI upscaling-based Telephoto camera to Galaxy S26 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra has already been the talk of the town for recent weeks; meanwhile, a new report revealed that it will bring an upgraded 12MP Telephoto camera, where the megapixels could be fewer than the sensor’s original specs.

Samsung is supposed to announce the Galaxy S26 series on 25 February 2026, at the Galaxy Unpacked event, in San Francisco, and sales will start in the first week of March, which suggests that the company could open general sales on March 6. However, the official announcement regarding the official launch timeline has yet to be released.

In a few recent days, several Galaxy S26 Ultra leaks and rumors have surfaced online, which revealed that it will feature a larger vapor chamber, have rounded corners rather than its predecessor, a Neural Framing-powered AI camera, could be powered by Exynos 2600, and more.

Meanwhile, a reliable tipster, Phoneart, shared a post on X, claiming that the Galaxy S26 Ultra may feature a 12MP Telephoto camera, but the utilized resolution may remain 10MP. According to the post, the company may use AI-powered image upscaling to work to make 10MP shots 12MP.

However, there’s no official information on whether, despite adopting a new image sensor, Samsung is downsizing hardware. The tipster claimed the company uses software-driven image upscaling so each shot, regardless of which camera is used, maintains 12MP resolution by default. It remains to be seen how efficient this strategy will come out to enhancing the capturing experience.
