Samsung’s Wide Fold Could Launch Globally This Year

Samsung appears ready to follow Apple into wider foldable territory. While the iPhone Fold is expected to break from the traditional book-style design later this year, Samsung is preparing its own answer: a device tentatively called the Wide Fold.
New evidence suggests this won’t be a limited experiment. An IMEI database listing updated in early 2025 shows regional variants for the US, Canada, China, Korea, and global markets. That’s a significant footprint for what could be Samsung’s most unconventional foldable yet.
The device carries model number SM-F971, which sits alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (SM-F976) and Flip 8 (SM-F776). Its internal codename, H8, also breaks from Samsung’s usual pattern. Previous Fold models used Q-series codes (Q6, Q7), while Flip devices used B-series names. The H designation suggests Samsung is treating this as something separate from its main foldable lineup.
Production plans back that up. Samsung reportedly intends to manufacture one million Wide Fold units in 2026, far exceeding output for niche releases like the China-only Fold 6 Special Edition or the experimental TriFold.
Specs remain somewhat unclear. The inner display is pegged at 7.6 inches, matching current Fold models, but the outer screen is expected to measure 5.4 inches. That’s substantially wider than the narrow cover displays Samsung has used for years. The inner aspect ratio is disputed, with some sources claiming a square 18:18 layout and others pointing to 4:3. Leaked renders from Samsung lean toward the latter, though nothing is confirmed.
What’s obvious is that Samsung is watching Apple closely. Whether that translates into a better device or just a wider one remains to be seen.
