Samsung updates its two years old flagships with the unprecedented security patches of August 2022 in advance of everyone else: fresh firmware is actually being distributed for the Samsung Galaxy S20, Samsung Galaxy S20+, and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy 20 August 2022 Security Firmware:

A few hours ago, the August 2022 Android Security Patch rolled out for Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 in Europe. The Samsung Galaxy S20 series is preparing to accept the August 2022 security patch, even before Google releases them. The firmware G98*BXXUEFVG5 is also being used to deploy the upgrade in Europe but does not seem to include other important innovations.

The series has three models namely:

  • Galaxy S20 Ultra (SM-G988B) – G988BXXUEFVG5
  • Galaxy S20+ (SM-G985F) LTE – G985FXXUEFVG5
  • Galaxy S20+ (SM-G986F) 5G – G986FXXUEFVG5
  • Galaxy S20 (SM-G981B) 5G – G981FXXUEFVG5
  • Galaxy S20 (SM-G980B) LTE – G980FXXUEFVG5

What’s New:

Based on the manufacturer’s changelog, Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are receiving improvements in overall feature stability, as well as the usual performance refinements and elimination of some unspecified bugs. With the new firmware currently rolling out, some of the Samsung apps, such as Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Internet, Samsung Health, SmartThings and Samsung Members, will also be updated. We will have to wait a few more days for details on security improvements, as Samsung usually talks about it earlier this month.

The required download is still quite substantial for a minor update: it is about 240MB, so we advise you to rely on a Wi-Fi network so as not to affect the Giga of your mobile offer.

The update with the security patches of August 2022 is also distributed in Germany on Samsung Galaxy S20, Samsung Galaxy S20+ and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, starting as (almost) always from non-brand models. To update via OTA you can go to the system settings, following the path “Settings > Software Updates > Download and Install“. In case of negative outcome, do not despair: just try again within a few hours or at the maximum of a day.
