Samsung has started distributing the December 2022 security from the first week of the month. The company initially dropped the update for the Galaxy S20 devices in Europe; then it expanded the update to other variants of the device, but it still doesn’t cover all the device variants. The Korean giant has released the latest security update for the Galaxy S20 device in the US to get the job done.

As of now, the Carrier unlocked variant of Galaxy S20 devices is receiving the December 2022 security update; it comes with a new firmware version number G981U1UES3FVK4, G986U1UES3FVK4, and G988U1UES3FVK4 for Galaxy S20 general, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra respectively. It is also worth noticing that the carrier-unlocked variant of the Galaxy S20 device hasn’t received the Android 13 update yet. While the carrier-locked variant already received the same update a few days ago.

The December 2022 security update doesn’t bring any feature; it is a regular monthly update which is provided by Samsung for its Galaxy devices. As the name suggests, the update comes with a lot of fixes that resolve the issues related to security.

December 2022 Security Patch Fixed These Vulnerabilities:

According to the Samsung documentation, the latest patches include the fix to as many as 93 vulnerabilities, 67 of them common to (almost) all Android devices. Of the long list, 5 vulnerabilities are defined as critical, 63 high priority, and 12 moderate. Most of these vulnerabilities affect Galaxy smartphones and tablets with Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12, but some also touch the latest version of the robot. Among the latter, one concerns the RCS system, which would allow malicious actors to access the phone number of an incoming call. It also required action on the vulnerability that would allow access to the contents of the toast notifications of the Personal Area through the Nice Catch app (it is part of the Good Lock package).
