Unicode 15.1 Emojis could be available in One UI 5.1, according to a recent report. This would mean that the latest emojis would be available on Samsung devices running the latest version of One UI. Samsung has already confirmed the Galaxy S23 launch on February 1st, and it will run on Android 13-based One UI 5.1 out of the box.
The report claims that the new emojis will be available “soon,” though it’s unclear exactly when they’ll roll out. It’s also worth noting that not all of the new Unicode 15.1 emojis will be available on One UI 5.1, as some of them are platform-specific. Nonetheless, this is still good news for those who use Samsung devices and want to keep up with the latest emoji trends.

The Unicode Consortium is the standard body for the internationalization of software and services; it is the only company that is behind the development of today’s emojis. Earlier today, the company announced a new pack of emojis with Unicode 15.1
Jennnifer Daniel, chair of the Emoji subcommittee, Unicode, said, “This past Fall, the Unicode Technical Committee announced the delay of Unicode 16.0. This wasn’t without precedent— COVID slowed down the release of Unicode 14.0 in 2020, and the world seemed to survive😉. Subcommittees were well prepared and adjusted accordingly, discussing what this meant for their respective areas of expertise.”
According to the information, 2023 will also be a year that will allow the consortium to adopt a new annual release cadence for its guidelines. It is also worth noting that these emojis may be for a quick review and are in an early stage. So it may see more new emojis after some time. The technical committee of Unicode will meet this month for an initial discussion on this proposal and decide what will be the future of emojis.
