Galaxy Note 20 series receives the October 2023 security update but won’t get One UI 6
Samsung is rapidly introducing the October 2023 update to its Galaxy devices. It has already updated several devices in the S series and is now expanding the update to the Galaxy Note series phones, i.e., the Galaxy Note 20 series. The latest update is not limited to only one country; it is available on different continents as well.
Notably, there are three models available in Europe, including the Galaxy Note 20 LTE, Galaxy Note 20 5G, and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, which are receiving the new update with firmware version numbers N980FXXS8HWJ1, N981BXXS8HWJ1, and N986BXXS8HWJ1, respectively.
In addition, the update is also available in the US. There are two models available: the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The carrier-locked variants of these devices are grabbing the new update with firmware version numbers N981USQS5HWI1 and N986USQS5HWI1. Currently, the update is spotted on some carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Spectrum Mobile, and Xfinity (Comcast), and expected that it could be expanded to more carriers in the coming days.
The October 2023 update is one of the normal security patch updates that comes with some new security vulnerability fixes that can enhance the overall security of Galaxy devices. According to the official documentation of Samsung, the latest patch comes with over 40 fixes, of which 34 were introduced by Google and bring fixes for bugs found in the Android OS. For extra safety, Samsung also bought 12 more fixes that can enhance the overall security of Galaxy devices.
Moreover, the latest update doesn’t bring any new features or significant changes visibly to you; it may bring some enhancements internally that can improve the performance and stability of the device, so if you are getting any lagging or app crashing issues, then you should update your device to the latest version; it may resolve them.
Galaxy Note 20 Series won’t get One UI 6 and Android 14 update
The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra got Android 13 and One UI 5. They came with Android 10 and Samsung promised three updates. So, Android 13 was the last update for them. In other words, since these devices already got all three updates, they won’t get the next one. One UI 6 is based on Android 14, and it won’t be available for these devices.
