Samsung Aims to Strengthen Chip Business with Semiconductor Glass Substrates

Samsung Electronics has consistently engaged in direct competition with competitors such as TSMC in the semiconductor industry and aspires to become a leader in its own semiconductor business. The current era is all dedicated to AI; the demand to get high-performance and high-density-based AI chipsets is increasing rapidly.
Meanwhile, a recent report suggests that Samsung is looking at entering the semiconductor glass substrate market to offer severe competition and align with its leading spot in terms of innovations and technology.
Samsung’s entry in the semiconductor glass substrates market will make it a leading brand
Glass substrates are important parts for making high-performance semiconductors like AI chipsets. A reputable Korean news source said that Samsung is currently working to protect these substrates, which will eventually help its semiconductor business, which includes foundries and system semiconductors.
Substantially, Samsung is pursuing multiple material, component, and equipment (SME) companies to begin the production of semiconductor glass substrates, with the aim to create its own supply chain.
Due to a smoother and thinner surface, the semiconductor glass substrates allow more detailed circuits. Apart from this, they have less warping due to heat, which makes them suitable for giving high performance and high density to semiconductors, which is the most prominent factor of AI chips.
Since the semiconductor is made up of glass, even a small crack can damage the entire semiconductor; despite knowing both the advantages and disadvantages, Samsung has decided to enter into the semiconductor glass substrate market with its full potential, with this being the first time Samsung Electronics is eyeing to produce semiconductor glass substrates, as until now, only Intel, Absolix, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and LG Innotek were preparing glass substrates.
