Samsung is yet to bring Qi 2.1, while Apple starts gearing up for Qi 2.2

Samsung is looking forward to bringing Qi 2.1 wireless charging support to its next-generation foldable phones, while Apple already has plans to introduce new products with Qi 2.2.
Recently, it was reported that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were spotted on the Wireless Power Consortium, revealing that both devices will have Qi2 Ready wireless charging support.
Now, a new report from 91Mobiles revealed that two new MagSafe chargers with dedicated model numbers A3502 and A3503 are listed on Taiwan’s NCC certification site, revealing support for Qi 2.2 and charging speeds up to 45W. It’s expected that Apple could launch these puck-style wireless chargers in the third quarter of 2025, probably alongside the iPhone 17 series.

The devices have USB-C connectors and braided cables (1m and 2m variants), and the 100mm puck lists an output of 15V at 3A, equating to 45W. The upcoming Qi 2.2 technology is highly anticipated to bring improvements over its predecessor with features such as up to 50W wireless charging speeds, enhanced magnetic alignment, higher efficiency, backward compatibility, and cross-brand accessory support, promoting a universal charging ecosystem.
On the comparison side, initially this year, Samsung introduced the Qi 2.1 magnetic alignment wand accessory attachment feature, although this feature only works when used with compatible magnetic cases. Now it will be interesting to see how Samsung will deal with this situation, however, it has to take steps faster, since it is yet to bring the Qi2.1, whereas Apple already plans to bring Qi 2.2 with new products.
