Samsung could hold firm against Chinese rivals by launching LPDDR6

Samsung is actively setting up to get back in the game with the LPDDR6 memory to stand strong against its Chinese competition.

A few years back, Samsung was one of the leading brands in the semiconductor memory chipsets, but due to a lower yield, the technological leadership of the firm faded, which benefited its rival manufacturers, especially Micron and SK Hynix

Recently, it’s been reported that SK Hynix defeated Samsung in the global DRAM market despite growth decline. Now it seems that the Korean tech giant is looking forward to standing strong against its rivals. A new report from Business Post Korea revealed that Samsung will likely develop LPDDR6 memory chips using 1c DRAM.

DRAM stands for Dynamic Random Access Memory, and is a core part of memory chips. To date, there have been six generations of DRAM, including 1x, 1y, 1z, 1a, 1b, and 1c. Out of these six generations, 1c RAM delivers the fastest performance and better power efficiency compared to the rest of other five RAM, since it is one of the latest designs.

Samsung is expected to launch its latest LPDDR6 memory chipset by the end of this year, and is also anticipated to be used in laptops and smartphones that will be launched early next year. Reportedly, the memory chip could be paired with the Snapdragon X Elite 2 chip that is expected to be announced in September 2025.

On the rivalry side, China’s CXMT is also gearing up to phase out the production of LPDD4 chips this year and fully transition to LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory chips. Apart from these chips, it is also currently developing LPDDR6 memory chips for the future.

It will be interesting to see whether Samsung’s LPDDR6 memory chip could bring a new revolution in the market and also stand strong against its rival brands.
