Samsung to use 2nm-based Snapdragon chip to power Galaxy S26 series

Samsung Galaxy S26 is highly anticipated to launch in early 2026, which could be based on a mix of Exynos 2600 and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy chips, and interestingly, both the chips are said to be made on Samsung Foundry’s 2nm technology.

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series, which is completely based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, that couldn’t be the case for the next-generation Galaxy S26 series, since the company could use its in-house Exynos 2600 chip also to power a few models of the series.

Meanwhile, a new report from Business Post Korea revealed that Qualcomm is developing two variants for its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset for high-end phones. Reportedly, the normal version will be made by TSMC on its new 3nm process node, whereas the other one is expected to be built on Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process technology.

The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is reported to be codenamed Kaanapali, whereas the Samsung-made variant holds a dedicated codename Kaanapali S. The regular variant has already entered the mass production phase, which will be used by the rest of the Android smartphones except Samsung. Whereas the other variant of the chipset is still running in the testing phase and could be mass-produced in the first quarter of 2026.

The Galaxy S26 series is expected to include four variants: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, Galaxy S26 Ultra, and Galaxy S26 Edge. The company could power a few variants of the series with the Exynos 2600 chip based on a 2nm process, which is designed by Samsung’s System LSI division.

However, currently, there’s no official word regarding the chipset of the Galaxy S26 series yet; it remains to be seen whether the report will come true.
