Samsung usually follows a simple pattern of providing major OS updates every year for both of its Galaxy smartphones and watches. While the Galaxy devices receive a major One UI update that is based on Google’s latest Android version, the Galaxy watches get a One UI Watch build that runs on top of Google’s latest Wear OS.
More specifically, the company has just opened up two of its major OS beta programs: Android 16-based One UI 8 Beta for the Galaxy S25 series, while One UI 8 Watch Beta, which is based on the newly released Wear OS 6, is going live for Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra models in some major selective regions.
One UI 8 Beta-Based on Android 16 for Galaxy Phones
Samsung’s newest mobile operating system, One UI 8, which runs Android 16 on top, has already started reaching the Galaxy S25 series in the form of the One UI 8 Beta program. The beta program was initiated at the end of May for the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, which was then followed by the expansion to more eligible countries.
Then began the One UI 8 Beta 2 rollout for the same Galaxy S25 models at the beginning of June, and now, the S25 units have started testing One UI 8 Beta 3 as well. It’s important to note that Samsung is dispatching the One UI 8 beta program in eligible countries, including India, Germany, the US, Poland, South Korea, and the UK.
One UI 8 Watch Beta (Wear OS 6) for Galaxy Watches
On the other hand, Samsung is also rolling out the latest major wearable operating system designs for its wearables, One UI 8 Watch. Beginning with the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra models, the company has just initiated the One UI 8 Watch Beta program for the current Galaxy Watch series. However, the watch beta program is limited to South Korea and the US.
Samsung will soon expand the One UI 8 beta for more Galaxy devices and watches
Well, Samsung will expand the beta program to more Galaxy devices. In smartphones, it could extend One UI 8 Beta for Galaxy S24, S23, S22, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5. At the same time, the One UI 8 Watch beta could be expanded for the Galaxy Watch 6, Watch 6 Classic, Watch 5, and Watch 5 Pro models in the coming future.
