Samsung Secures LG Technology to Compete with BOE in US Market

Samsung is setting up to stand strong against its Chinese display rival, BOE, in the US market by buying LG technology.
A new report from a reliable blog, TheElec, revealed that Samsung Electronics has bought 70 patents related to LCD technologies from LG Display in the US. One of the interesting facts regarding this step is that the company had made this purchase despite quitting the LCD display business around three years back.
Samsung Display and BOE are the two strongest competitors of each other in the display market, and both are also dealing with a legal battle in the US. Both companies have laid charges against their archrivals of patent infringement, with Samsung gearing up to weaken BOE even further with ammo loaded from LG Display in the USA.
According to the report, LG Display has now transferred 70 LCD patents to Samsung Display in the USA, following a display tech transfer of 55 LCD patents last month. This new collaboration between Samsung Display and BOE is aiming to give strong competition to rival firm BOE.
Noticeably, Samsung is looking forward to using LG’s LCD patents in its ongoing lawsuits with BOE and CSOT at various US bodies, for instance, ITC, PTAB, and CAFC. On the other side, BOE has also filed two patent infringement lawsuits against Samsung Display in federal court.
Currently, the trio of these three firms is filing patent infringement claims against each other; it remains to be seen exactly what will happen next and which firm will get a legal win.
