Qualcomm Plans Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and 8 Elite 2 Chips—Which One Fits Galaxy S26 Ultra?

Qualcomm is looking forward to launching its next-generation flagship chipsets, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, in the coming months.

Last year, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which was supposed to be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; however, the company adopted a new naming convention.

Meanwhile, it seems the company plans to bring both naming conventions in the future, as a reliable leaker, Digital Chat Station, shared a post on Weibo (via – Android Authority), revealing that Qualcomm’s rumored SM8845 chip could be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

On the other side, Qualcomm is also working on the SM8850 chipset, which is highly anticipated to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. It’s expected that Samsung will use this chipset to power the next-generation Galaxy S26 series

If the report comes true, then we could see both a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 anytime soon in the coming months. However, the tipster hasn’t revealed the exact launch date for this chipset yet. Whereas Qualcomm also remains to release any official statement regarding the existence of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, so it will be interesting to see what will happen next.
