Android 17 already under works, internal dessert-based codename leaked

Android 16 is gradually making its way to more eligible Android smartphones, other than Google Pixel devices, right after two months of the stable release, with Samsung’s newest foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE,becoming the first models to arrive with Android 16 on board. Now, of course, details have already started coming out regarding the upcoming major software version.
While Android 16 has to cover up a long journey as a wide range of the Android ecosystem is waiting for the current stable build, Google’s next major OS, Android 17, has already become the new talk of the town!
According to the latest report via Android Authority, Google has decided on the internal dessert-based codename for Android 17, which will be named as ‘Cinnamon Bun’ and was reportedly noticed with a code attached to API level 37.0.
Specifically, for years, Google has followed a pattern of dessert nomenclature for its every major software release, subsequently naming its Android versions with the name of a popular sweet dish. However, this pattern was hidden when Google announced that it’s shifting to the new Trunk Stable development model for the Android ecosystem.
At the same time, the older dessert naming tradition was highlighted when Android 16 received its sweet name as Baklava, and following the same, Google will be naming its upcoming major software with a sweet name starting with the ‘C’ initial. With Cupcake already taken with Android 1.5, Google, this time, decided to go with an all-new name for Android 17, Cinnamon Bun.
Well, it appears like Android 17 will be internally named as Cinnamon Bun just within the Android version field of early beta builds and will be called only Android 17 once the software reaches its platform stability stage, as happened with Android 16. Since Google’s progress with Android 16 was highly impressive, as it released the version on time, hopefully, the company will follow the same launch timeline for both the beta and stable releases with Android 17 as well.
