Samsung’s commitment towards its Galaxy ecosystem is incredible, primarily due to its software update support. Not just this, the update brings a host of new and interesting features for smartphones that certainly take the user experience to the next level, and the same goes with the Galaxy Watches as well. Meanwhile, the Tizen OS support for the smartwatches is coming to an end.
It’s been a while since Samsung adopted Google’s Wear OS for its smartwatch lineup; however, the company is looking towards permanently ending update support for Tizen OS-based smartwatches.
Samsung started the process of ending update support for Tizen OS-based Galaxy watches in May 2024.
- The initiative is being rolled out in three phases.
- Phase 1 (September 30, 2024): Samsung stopped selling paid Tizen Watch content via the Samsung Galaxy Store.
- Phase 2 (March 31, 2025): Users were no longer allowed to download free Tizen Watch content from the Galaxy Store.
- Phase 3 (September 30, 2025): Samsung will permanently end all Tizen OS-based content support, meaning users cannot download any content (paid or free) from the Galaxy Store after this date.
- After September 30, 2025, any Tizen apps deleted from a device cannot be re-downloaded; they will be lost forever.
- This affects all Galaxy watch models running Tizen OS, including Galaxy Gear, Gear S series, Galaxy Watch, and Galaxy Watch Active models.
At the same time, Samsung says that the downloaded Tizen-based apps will still remain functional till September 30th, 2025, and once deleted from the server side, it’s next to impossible to download the apps after the scheduled deadline.

Also, the Galaxy Watch 3 was the first smartwatch when Samsung initiated integrating Wear OS, ditching its Tizen OS permanently for all the newer generation Galaxy Watches. Now, here are the Galaxy Watches for which the Tizen-based updates have ended:

Well, Samsung has been prioritizing Wear OS over Tizen OS for its Galaxy Watches, and in case you own any of the Galaxy Watches listed above, then in order to enjoy new features and enhancements, you need to upgrade your watch. Currently, Samsung has been working on Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch, with the Galaxy Watch 7 models already running the One UI 8 Watch beta program.
