Samsung shifts Galaxy S21 FE from Monthly to Quarterly update frequency

Samsung is the leading brand when it comes to providing software updates to its Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, the company has just changed the update frequency of the Galaxy S21 FE, and the device is now bound to Quarterly updates.

Basically, Samsung follows a pattern of releasing software updates for its entire Galaxy ecosystem, from its smartphones, tablets, foldables, to wearables, rugged, and enterprise models, where each device is placed in three different categories, including Monthly, Quarterly, and Biannual.

Since the devices receive updates according to their category in which they are positioned, Samsung just shifted the Galaxy S21 FE from a monthly to quarterly update list, suggesting that the device is no longer eligible for receiving updates each month, and thus, from now on, this Fan Edition model will be getting software updates four times a year.

Well, this is not the first time that Samsung has shifted any device from a nicer update list to an inferior one; the company does it often.

Nevertheless, according to the software update policy, the Galaxy S21 FE is bound to receive four major OS updates alongside five security patches. That is, releasing on Android 12, the S21 FE will get its last major OS update in the form of Android 16, while security patches will be dispatched for an additional year.

Other than that, the Galaxy S21 FE is eligible for Android 16-based One UI 8 update, but at the same time, its elder siblings, the Galaxy S21 Series not. (tap on the link to know more in detail)
