Google Assistant to vanish completely from Galaxy devices, as Gemini looks into action

Samsung Galaxy users, Google Assistant could soon disappear completely from Galaxy devices, as Gemini is now reported to replace it.

It’s been two years since Google formally introduced Gemini as the latest-generation AI-powered digital assistant. Initially, it was released for the new Galaxy devices, and later, over time, it expanded to older Galaxy devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and Galaxy Watches.

Previously, Google announced that it is considering phasing out Google Assistant across Android and ChromeOS, and it has been doing so over a few years. Meanwhile, a new report from Android Authority has now revealed that in the latest version of Google (v16.46.61), a change was spotted that replaces Google Assistant branding with Gemini. Reportedly, this change appeared in the “Hey Google” setup process.

According to the report, in the latest Google version, the items that used to say Google Assistant in the “Hey Google” settings have been replaced with Gemini, and the “Hey Google & Voice Match” section of the Settings menu has been replaced with the “Talk to Gemini hands-free.”

If the report is to be believed, Google will remove the Google Assistant brand completely after March 2026, and during this period, all related features will gradually be transferred to Gemini. Coming to the Galaxy ecosystem, Samsung has already replaced Google Assistant with Gemini since the One UI 7 update for phones and tablets.

The fate of devices running One UI 6.1.1 or lower and not eligible for One UI 7 remains unclear; however, it’s highly anticipated that they will still be transferred to Gemini via an app update soon.
