It’s official: Galaxy Watches to get Gemini instead of Google Assistant

Samsung Galaxy Watches to get Gemini instead of Google Assistant by the end of this year, as Google has officially confirmed.

Google has already replaced its voice assistant with Gemini on Android smartphones, including Samsung. The newly launched Galaxy S25 series also features pre-installed Gemini in place of Google Assistant.

A few days back, it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy watch could get Gemini integration as a replacement for the aging Google Assistant. Now, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has officially confirmed that Google Assistant will be replaced by Gemini on smartwatches powered with Wear OS later this year, which means that Galaxy Watches will also get a new voice assistant.

Regarding this new integration, Pichai, during Alphabet’s Q1 2025 earnings call, stated, “later this year we’ll upgrade tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches” to Gemini.

From Galaxy Watch 4 to the latest Galaxy Watch 7, all are eligible to get Gemini integration as they are based on Wear OS. These Galaxy watches will get all the new upgrades and features Google makes for its AI assistant on this form factor.

Galaxy Watch users can easily access the Gemini by holding the side button or saying the “OK Google” hotword. However, it will be interesting to see how much this integration of Gemini will be efficient as compared to the current Google Assistant.
