Today Samsung disclosed 200MP ISOCELL HP3, the image sensor with the industry’s smallest 0.56-micrometer (μm)-pixels.
Samsung introduced ISOCELL HP1 as the first 200-megapixel camera sensor for smartphones, digital cameras, etc. Although the latest sensor has not been used in a phone until now, it has been hyped for a long time.
Samsung skipped the name ISOCELL HP2 to ISOCELL HP3. ISOCELL HP3 is expected to be used in commercial devices by the beginning of 2023. According to industry rumors, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be the first to sport the latest sensor, but many smartphone manufacturers will also use this sensor in their upcoming devices.
The mass production of the device is expected after this reveal and is to be completed in the starting phase of 2023.
This version, like the previous 108-megapixel, the 200-megapixel main camera will be constantly updated to make it better. Also, it will use advanced AI processing.
Following are its major improvements and features; Highlights :
- Even Slimmer Smartphone; The ISOCELL HP3 has a 12 percent smaller pixel size than the predecessor’s 0.64μm, with 200 million pixels in a 1/1.4” optical format resulting in approximately 20 percent reduction in camera module surface area, giving the device manufacturers more space and keeping the device slim.
- Improved & Even Quicker Autofocus; It has Super QPD, a single lens over four-adjacent pixels which detects the phase differences in both horizontal and vertical directions, allowing more accurate and quick autofocus for smartphone users.
- Movie-like Recordings; Combined with the Super QPD solution, users can take movie-like cinematic footage with their mobile devices at 8K-30 fps or 4K at 120fps, with minimal loss in the field of view.
- Low Light Photography; The Tetra2pixel technology that combines four pixels into one will enable the sensor to simulate a large-sized pixel sensor to take brighter and more vibrant shots even in dimmed environments.
- HDR capabilities; Improved Smart-ISO Pro feature allows three ISO modes, Low, Mid, and High, widens the sensor’s dynamic range, and expresses images in over 4 trillion colors staggered HDR. Also, the ISOCELL HP3 can switch between the two solutions depending on the filming environment to produce high-quality HDR images.
Although higher megapixels do not guarantee higher photo quality, thanks to developing artificial intelligence technologies, phones can now produce very good results by processing high resolution and often lowering the resolution or adverse conditions.
Samsung informed, Samples of the Samsung ISOCELL HP3 are currently available, and mass production is set to begin this year by adding the statement below.
