Verizon US rolls out August 2023 security update to Galaxy S20, S20 FE, Note 20, Fold 2, and A53 5G
Verizon is the largest mobile network operator in the US. The company also sells smartphones bound to its network; therefore, the company also schedules the update to those devices at different times, like now, a week later, when it is rolling out a new update to some Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Note 20 5G series, Galaxy S20 Series, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, and the Galaxy A53 5G.
The latest security patch
The August 2023 patch is the latest security update; it brings more than 80 security vulnerability fixes for your Galaxy devices. According to the official documentation, the latest patch has a mix of patches that resolve the issues found in the Android OS and also enhance the performance of devices. The update is limited to enhancing the security of the devices.

The latest update brought the August security patch with a new firmware version number. It is worth noticing that the update is available for only locked variants of devices. To identify the new update, you can check the firmware versions of those devices, such as the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra, which are getting the update with these versions: G981USQS6HWGC, G986USQS6HWGC, and G988USQS6HWGC, respectively.
The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are grabbing the August 2023 update with version numbers N981USQS5HWG8 and N986USQS5HWG8, respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy S20 FE 5G are grabbing the update with version numbers A536VSQS8CWG8 and G781VSQSAHWG9, respectively.
How to install
Users who own any of the foldable smartphones can easily update their device by following these steps:
- Go to the system settings.
- Scroll down to the software update menu and click on it.
- Now touch the Download and Install button.
- Wait until the search is finished.
- If it shows a new update is available, then hit the download button.
