New Google Wallet App Shortcuts Let You Access Cards

Google Wallet is offering new support for app shortcuts to permit you to place credit and debit cards on the home screen.

Google Wallet already offers lots of power to users, such as store payment cards, loyalty cards, digital keys, and so on. It is now offering new power to Android users so that they can place credit as well as debit cards on their home screen. Once you get this support, long-pressing on Google Wallet will reveal application shortcuts for your stored credit as well as a debit card.

Apart from the picture of the card, it will also include the credit card network and the last four digits. Google decided to show four dots in front in a bid for consistency, but it’s a little essential. You can drag it to a spot on the phone’s home screen, similar to any other app shortcut, to create a permanent icon. This will offer one-tap access to the card that opens the card page with a bigger view and a list of “recent activity.”

If the user desires instant card switching, they can save these cards by first opening Wallet, using the in-app carousel, and then integrating them with the Quick Settings Tile and the lock screen shortcut. However, at the time, Google did not make these card shortcuts available widely yet, but they are seen in version 24.12.x of Google Wallet after a server-side update.

To experience these card shortcuts, users must make sure that they have the latest Google Play Services installed with version number 24.10.17.
