One UI 7 and Android 15 Delays Pose a Challenge to Samsung’s Software Update Legacy

Undoubtedly, Samsung is one of the smartphone brands that hardly delays its software updates, not even in general security patches. But it seems to be losing its legacy, as it scheduled this year’s major Android OS update, Android 15-based One UI 7, for the next year.

Samsung Developer Conference 2024 is successfully done as expected. Samsung discussed its future plans to enhance the overall Galaxy ecosystem. At the conference, Samsung announced that the Android 15-based One UI 7 beta will go live for developers by the end of this year. And the stable release is shifted to 2025.

This means Samsung is not releasing any major Android OS update in 2024 to its Galaxy devices. Other smartphone brands available in the market have already released the Android 15 to their phones; for instance, Vivo and Xiaomi. Meanwhile, Google has already started gearing up for the next-generation Android 16 OS update. On the comparison side, Samsung is still dealing with the Android 15.

The delay in Android 15 could mess up Samsung’s software update schedules, since when it gets ready to release the stable Android 15 to its devices, till then Google may already start Android 16. However, Samsung has not yet announced its exact timeline for the One UI 7. So it could be possible that the company may manage the time by releasing the One UI 7 as soon as possible to all eligible devices.
