Samsung Wallet Digital Integration With SPay & SPass

On the authority of Samsung Electronics media press release, On June 16th Samsung announced that the Samsung Wallet would be integrated with its other digital services, namely SamsungPay and Samsung Pass, to store and access digital IDs, payment, and loyalty cards, keys, .etc. Digitally for users’ convenience and ease of access.

Samsung wallet was originally launched nearly ten years ago and shut down in 2015; it became Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay’s functions were similar to Apple’s Passbook. 

Experts believed Apple’s payment services heavily inspired it at that time.

Even now, we can conclude that this relaunching of the Samsung Wallet and its integration is a step towards creating a payment ecosystem like Apple’s.

It was on June 9th that Samsung Pay & Samsung Pass integrated the merger started in-home country of S.Korea and then moved to other regions. 

As so was promised, it happened. Now Samsung has taken a step further and relaunched SWallet with SPay & Spass integration to store digital currency and transactions.

It has also increased the number of partners and service regions and will further expand its services to other regions.

Digital Key Function, Digital Ticket and Assets Management, Samsung Pay’s Digital Asset Inquiry Function, and Samsung Knox were its four major functions and services.

Samsung SWallet is protected by defense-grade security from Samsung Knox. It takes advantage of an open Galaxy ecosystem by integrating with Samsung Blockchain Wallet to monitor cryptocurrencies and SmartThings to unlock doors easily.

Following are the highlights of this integration:

  • Samsung Wallet has a refined interface and one-swipe feature to access payment cards, loyalty, and membership cards.
  • Samsung Pass will securely store passwords and allow a hassle-free quick login to apps and services. It will monitor digital asset portfolios by checking the value of their cryptocurrencies across various exchanges.
  • Later this year, Samsung Wallet will also support official IDs, such as mobile driver’s licenses and student IDs.
  • The integration will allow convenient access to Home and Transportation to lock and unlock doors with a Galaxy device. Partners supported for this functionality are select BMW, Genesis, and Hyundai models. Partners such as Korean Air will allow boarding passes to be stored in Samsung Wallet.
  • Samsung Knox will provide a digital security service that protects from external threats like hacking, remote control access, theft, access to personal info, etc. Samsung informed that in addition to these security measures and services, the sensitive personal information is also stored in a separate secure area within the device so that users can use it confidently.

Samsung released a press release that explains:

France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the US, can open Samsung Pay or Samsung Pass app from their eligible Galaxy devices and follow the prompt to update and migrate to Samsung Wallet.

However, these services, features & functions are subject to availability and can change, as informed by Samsung:

  • These services require Samsung Pay-enabled Galaxy phones running Android 9 Pie or later.
  • Availability and launching of specific features may vary by market and user’s device model and are subject to change; this includes apps, partner’s services, supported terminal, functions, variants, etc.
