Samsung and Vodafone at the forefront of Open RAN innovation in Europe

Samsung electronics and Vodafone today announced their partnership to continue their partnership for expanding the 5G Open RAN in more European countries, while they have successfully worked together and enhanced the 5G network in the UK.

According to the information, the collaboration between the two companies aims for the betterment of the network, which aims to enhance the performance and capacity of Vodafone UK’s commercial network. It also targets increased performance levels and power saving in the Open RAN sites.

The new 5G initiatives

In Germany, Vodafone will do some new pilot projects for the Open RAN using Samsung’s 2G/4G vRAN and O-RAN-compliant radio solutions. In these projects, Vodafone will use Samsung’s mature solutions- proven in large-scale commercial networks- which demonstrate outstanding performance, stability and reliability.

While in Spain, Samsung joined Vodafone and tested in Ciudad Real, which was created to benchmark mature RAN providers and compare performance across both traditional and open RAN. Samsung will share its new edge technology for the betterment of the network. It will deploy its massive MIMO radios and 4G/5G vRAN in CREATE (Ciudad Real España Advanced Testing Environment) to evaluate and verify their performance in Spain’s urban environment.

Thomas Riedel, Head of Samsung, said “Samsung’s virtualized Open RAN solutions are successfully running in Vodafone’s commercial network in the UK, delivering performance on par with traditional mobile radio networks and providing Vodafone with an agile network on which to deploy new services and features,”

Moreover, these two companies( Vodafone and Samsung) will hold hands to provide strong coverage of 5G across Europe by expanding the Open vRAN innovation; the partnership also aims to lead the 5G technology to the next level.

Samsung boosts North American AI with Former Apple Siri lead

Samsung is integrating its two North American AI research centers. On the other hand, it is also hiring a former Apple executive to lead the newly combined team. This step hints that Samsung is strengthening its AI research and development (R&D) efforts in North America. 

The reports suggest that the brand has made the announcement internally this week, around the same time Apple kicked off a much-anticipated expansion into AI, as revealed by the people who asked not to be identified since the changes have yet to be announced. 

The Korean giant is working on a new operation called the North America AI Center, integrating its teams in Toronto and Mountain View, California. Samsung’s research arm “Ecntralized” the two centers to improve operations and increase efficiency, according to an internal memo viewed by Bloomberg. The brand didn’t disclose the exact reason for what would happen to the two offices. 

This step directly suggests that the world’s two largest technology firms are getting more aggressive in AI. Murat Akback, a former Apple executive, will head up the division. According to the memo from the iPhone maker, Akback was  “responsible for defining and executing the strategy for Siri, Apple’s digital assistant, focusing on personalization, contextualization, and advancements in conversational and multimodal AI.” 

Apple announced a significant AI boost focusing on upgrading Siri and user experience through a system called Apple Intelligence. They hold OpenAI technology for some features but rely heavily on in-house development. On the other hand, the Korean giant integrated its North American AI research centers. He hired an ex-Apple AI expert, potentially to power up its AI development (R&D) in North America. They dedicatedly use Google Gemini technology for their AI mechanism.

As per the information, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is spotted getting a June 2024 security patch update in Guatemala with the firmware version number F731BXXS2CXEA. With the latest update, you will get some new features that will improve the overall performance of the devices. The update is expected to be available to more units in the coming days.

The June 2024 security patch update for the Galaxy device will provide nearly 60 fixes, and Google has addressed 37 security vulnerabilities in the Android ecosystem. Meanwhile, Samsung has also brought 22 more patches that will improve the security of the Galaxy devices.

Additionally, the update may provide some new features that will improve the overall performance and enhancement of the devices. Along with this, the update may also offer some differences, which will enhance the overall performance and stability of the devices.

If you use the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the Central American region, you should receive new update notifications on your device. If you haven’t received an update, you can manually check for it.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was launched back in 2023; the device came with Android 13, and later, it grabbed its first significant update in the form of Android 14 and One UI 6.1. According to the Samsung software policy, it will get a new update till five years from the launch, so the device, where the device will get four major OS update and several security patch updates for five years

Samsung introduced a new platform called SmartThings Pro, which is dedicated to smart devices. It is a pretty advanced version of their existing SmartThings platform specifically designed for businesses, corporations, enterprises, and schools. It will be released soon in South Korea and expand globally by the end of 2024. 

Samsung Inroduces SmartThings Pro

Samsung introduced SmartThings Pro at the Infocomm 2024 expo in Las Vegas, USA. The giant assures that it is a hyper-connectivity platform that authorizes improved integration between smart devices and services; for instance, it can be used to link and adequately manage air conditioning, humidity control, lighting, security cameras, intelligent signage displays, temperature control, and TVs in a hotel or office space. 

SmartThings Pro offers a separate dashboard view for checking each device’s connection status through AI analysis. Its AI Energy Saving Mode can reduce the power consumption of devices such as AC and displays in a business environment. Samsung’s enterprise-grade smart device management platform will feature APIs that businesses and enterprises can use to merge their systems into SmartThings Pro. 

Cisco’s Control Hub will bring its famous video conferencing solution, whereas Aqara’s collaboration will enhance hotel guests’ experiences. The Korean giant has also started gearing up to integrate Quividi’s cloud-based customer data analysis platform. 

The Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ B2B Solutions Team, Park Chan-woo, stated, “We will further develop Samsung Electronics’ IoT solutions for the B2B market through SmartThings Pro. We will provide customized solutions optimized for everything from residential and commercial spaces to public facilities like schools.”   

Apart from this, the Korean giant also introduced its massive 420-inch display, The Wall, a modular Micro LED display. It features extremely high brightness, self-emissive pixels, perfect blacks, self-emissive pixels, and more. The brand has also displayed its transparent Micro LED TV technology. SmartThings Pro is compatible with intelligent digital signages and hotel TVs that run Tizen 7.0.
