Galaxy S22 won’t get Galaxy S23’s these Expert RAW features

The Korean firm Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series in February along with a major novelty- the One UI 5.1 update. The series includes plenty of major and minor updates, which are related to Camera, Gallery, Widgets, and else. Today we will move our focus to those Galaxy S23 features that might not reach the previous flagship- the Galaxy S22 series. It includes some Expert RAW features as well. 

Notably, Expert RAW is Samsung’s camera-related service which is limited to some premium Galaxy devices only. With the Galaxy S23 series and One UI 5.1 software, the company has introduced various Expert RAW novelties. However, the previous Galaxy S22 series will be out of their reach. The Galaxy S23-exclusive features that the Galaxy S22 series will not receive are listed below. 

360-degree Audio Recording

The first Galaxy S23 feature that the Galaxy S22 device won’t get is 360-degree audio recording. If you don’t know, it is a manual camera setting that lets you record video while you are wearing the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and leverages the microphones from both the Galaxy Phone and Galaxy Buds. As Samsung’s moderator shared that due to unknown reasons, the company will not provide this feature to the Galaxy S22 devices. 

50MP and 100MP shooting modes of Expert RAW

Another feature is the ability to capture high-resolution images in 50 and 100-megapixel Expert RAW modes. Specifically, the 100MP mode is the most demanding one out of these two. Unfortunately, due to technical reasons, these modes will also be out of the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s reach despite having a better image sensor like 108MP GN3. The main issue is its pixel-binning technology. 

In particular, the reason for not making the 100MP mode available for the Galaxy S22 Ultra device is the company’s decision to keep it limited to the latest models only. Besides, for the 100MP mode, the issue is the primary image sensor’s pixel-binning technology. As Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 108MP sensor, it can’t produce 50MP images by combining 4 pixels in one, as the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200MP HP2 sensor does. 

Consequently, the Galaxy S22 Ultra won’t get these new Expert RAW modes. However, other Galaxy S23 novelties, such as the image clipper function, will surely make their way to the Galaxy S22 series devices.
