Nowadays smartphones are chosen for their camera sensors before being purchased by the customers. And more than that, telephoto sensors are considered more than the primary cameras. To go near to a scene or a single subject while taking a picture without sacrificing information the use of telephoto mode is essential which allows you to zoom in up to two times optical zoom. The use of telephoto-camera characteristics really sparks in the portrait photography division. out-of-focus effect by telephoto lenses being the main reason for this.

Wide camera VS Telephoto camera:

Let’s discuss clicking a close-up shot with the wide camera which has a focal length of 24mm and a view of around 84 degree, the image results as a distorted one. In other words it can be referred to as extension distortion which occurs when nearby objects appear excessively big or far apart and due to that closer shooting distance increases the relative distance between facial 3D features.

Now following the same with telephoto lens which has an aperture of 85mm and 29 degree field of view that is significantly less distorted at the most typical magnification of 3-3.5x that makes it best suited for taking portraits.

ISOCELL’s Ultra-high resolution sensor :

This may serve as a key for the development of telephoto lenses that enable the devices as true backup cameras. A single 200 MP sensor can serve as a both telephoto and wide-angle sensor through its 4x in-sensor zoom displaying image quality on par with that of a traditional telephoto sensor.

ISOCELL 200MP sensor :

  • ISOCELL’s 200MP sensors can zoom in 2x or 4x without sacrificing resolution

  • A 200 MP sensor can sustain 12.5MP at 1x/2x/4x zoom without losing resolution all credits to the algorithm’s rearranging of colour pixels into an RGB Bayer pattern
  • Consumers can view the same resolution at 2x/4x magnification, although the wide camera always offers 12 MP in 1x mode as default in smartphones
  • A deep-learning based remosaic method that improves the optimisation of scene details, the 200 MP ISOCELL HP2 and ISOCELL HP3 camera for boosting zoomed shot quality.
  • To improve the quality of low light images, the sensors use the Tetra²pixel function that merges up to 16 nearby pixels with improved HDR and FPS(frames per second).
  • The 200 MP ISOCELL image sensors are doing a great job in breaking the barrier between the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, providing consistent image quality.

For instance let us consider, a 3x telephoto module with a 200 MP sensor can record lossless zoom scenarios from 3x to 12x, allowing for a variety of scenes without loss of resolution. This turns out useful in areas like tourist places where zooming in on distant objects offers diverse views. Telephoto cameras’ ultra-high resolution picture sensors deliver precise and vivid memory of the surroundings irrespective of the angles.

Both the ISOCELL HP2 and ISOCELL HP3 sensors are under production for usage in smartphones with the aim of catching up with wide sensors for factors like HDR, FPS and image quality. A common feature exists between wide and telephoto cameras like a 44 software deep learning remosaic technique that allows 2x/4x lossless zoom and 4x on-chip crop zoom.
