Galaxy S25’s Rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Could Generate More Heat and Battery Drain

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which is anticipated to be a powerful processor but generates more heat.

Initially, the forthcoming Galaxy S25 was supposed to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Now it’s expected to be based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. It is expected to be a powerful chipset, but it may also generate more heat and consume more battery as compared to previous generations’ chipsets.

The benchmarks for three variants of the chip have already been released. The standard version has a base frequency of 2.78 GHz and a peak of 4.09 GHz. On the other side, Samsung is testing two overclocked versions for their Galaxy S25 series, with speeds reaching 2.90GHz/4.19GHz and 3.53GHz/4.47GHz—that’s desktop-grade territory for a phone.

According to the report, the standard version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip version is expected to struggle with thermal management and battery efficiency. Reportedly, the chipset is expected to draw over 20W of power and reach up to a temperature of 98.5°C even under normal use. It’s reported that throttling is ineffective at reducing power consumption or cooling the chip.

The coming Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is a powerful processor that needs larger batteries. This is the reason why the company is offering a 6000mAh battery to its flagship smartphones featuring this chip. The above discussion suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Elite could generate more heat and consume more battery, which could create a negative effect on the user experience.
