Google to bring a new multitasking feature inspired by Samsung Dex

Samsung introduced a dedicated feature for its Galaxy smartphones and tablet called Samsung Dex that transforms these devices into a desktop-like computing experience. Now, Google is also looking forward to bringing a similar feature.
One of our reliable colleagues, Android Authority, reported that Google is expected to introduce a new Desktop Experience feature inspired by Samsung Dex, along with Feature Drop or may next major OS version; Android 17.

If the report comes true, then the Pixel smartphone users will get a DeX-like Desktop Experience mode, which will include a taskbar for pinned/recent applications, and also be compatible with launching multiple applications in freeform, resizable windows.

Reportedly, the feature will adapt Android’s tablet windowing for external displays, but it’s expected that it won’t launch with Android 16. Potentially, Google could bring this feature in a quarterly release or with the Android 17 release.
Although the current look seems quite efficient inspired by Android’s tablet experience. The Material 3 Expressive Design has further raised the visibility, which will result in making it look different as compared to the current stock Android UIs. Quick and Notification Panel expands into two dedicated sections, which will be controlled by the mouse easily.
Currently, there’s no official word regarding the release of this feature, so it remains to be seen whether the company will introduce it with Android 17 or a feature drop.
