Samsung & Hyundai Motor announced the industry’s first RedCap Trial on a Private 5G network 

Samsung and Hyundai Motor Company have completed the first end-to-end Reduced Capability (RedCap) trial over a private 5G network, showcasing future industrial 5G capabilities. 

Samsung via its official page announced that Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor collab together and launched an advanced private 5G network to connect and significantly manage several devices and manufacturing systems across its plant, this is resulting in making sure of real-time data upload and download. 

The company revealed that the test was dedicated to verifying RedCap capabilities and integrated performance across the overall network from vehicle inspection terminal to private 5G core, radios, and management system. 

Samsung and Hyundai aiming to replace Wi-Fi via testing RedCap 5G in a factory setting with a more reliable private 5G network for real-time data and device management. For the trial, Samsung resorted to RedCap-powered private 5G network solutions which integrate the Network Management System and also include its virtualised 5G Core, baseband units, and radios supporting the 4.7 bands. 

Reportedly, Samsung will unveil its innovative next-generation private 5G network at MWC 2025, which leverages the company’s virtualization leadership. The company will introduce software-centric private 5G solutions, which will include VRAM software and other software applications on commercial servers (COTS).
