Samsung just brought a new revolution to the foldable market by introducing the latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, for which it has decided to deduct the increased production costs.
Earlier this week, the Korean tech giant debuted seventh-generation foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, which are more expensive than their predecessors, but still they are in budget, as these could have been even more expensive.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 costs start at $1,999, which is $100 more expensive than last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6, whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 7 starts at $1,099. However, the company says despite being costlier than their predecessors, the newly launched foldable phones are not as expensive as they could have been.
Samsung mobile chief TM Roh, during the Galaxy Unpacked event, revealed that the firm has debited some of the production costs associated with these new foldable phones. He also quoted, “Pricing is always a key consideration with new product launches,” as said by the Korea Herald.
“There were significant innovations in this year’s models, which increased production costs. To expand foldable phones and democratize AI experiences, we decided to absorb those costs internally.” Roh explained that increased production costs are not the only issue, as the company also has to deal with the newly implemented US tariffs.
It means that Samsung could have charged more for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, but it didn’t. One of the major aims behind the company’s willingness to make less profit from these devices is just to ensure that it remains dominant in the foldable segment and brings advanced AI experiences widely.
