Samsung DeX Comes to Galaxy Z Flip for the First Time [Updated]

Update – The Galaxy Z Flip 7 definitively supports both wired and wireless Samsung DeX. While alterations in the One UI 8 interface (specifically the renamed “Wireless DeX” toggle and removal of the HDMI auto-start setting) initially led to confusion about wired functionality, practical testing with an older DeX dock confirms that wired DeX remains fully operational.

Samsung DeX is one of the best tools when it comes to connecting your device with PC, and bringing a Samsung in house application is available with most of the Galaxy devices especially those related to the premium segment but due to some reason, it was not available in Galaxy Z Flip lineup from the start. Fortunately this is changing with Galaxy Z Flip 7.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the first Samsung’s flip phone that can support Samsung DeX functionality. It brings desktop-like experience on your windows PCs and Tvs and over the years it has become a premium feature when it comes to connect with the PC.

Previously Samsung has said that it is unable to bring the Samsung DeX on Flip series due to the issues related to the heat generation during the DeX performance. But now with the galaxy Z Flip 7 it seems the company may resolve the issue with its Exynos 2500.

Good news for Galaxy Z Flip 7 users: You can now open your phone and use Samsung DeX on a bigger screen, like your TV or computer monitor.

Samsung DeX on the Flip 7? Yes, But Not Exactly How You’d Expect

But there’s one thing to know: the Z Flip 7 only supports wireless DeX.

What this means:

  1. No HDMI Cable: You cannot connect the phone directly to a monitor or TV using a cable (like HDMI).
  2. How it Works: You connect wirelessly to a compatible TV, monitor, or streaming device (like a Chromecast or Samsung Smart TV).
  3. The Good Part (Upside): Wireless means no extra cables are needed. It’s simpler to just connect without plugging anything in.
  4. The Not-So-Good Part (Downside): Wireless DeX won’t be as fast or smooth as connecting with a cable. You might notice a slight lag or delay compared to wired DeX.

In short: The Z Flip 7 brings DeX to the Flip series, but you have to use it wirelessly. This is handy for avoiding cables, but the connection won’t be quite as sharp or responsive as when a phone is plugged in directly.
