Android Auto May Drop Bold Colors for Subtle Wallpaper-Based Accents

While most of the Google apps are taking part in the ongoing trend of adopting Google’s Material 3 Expressive redesign, Android Auto also engaged in the revolution. A previous report claimed that Android Auto will be receiving an update where the entire UI of the car’s built-in system matches with the wallpaper applied on Android phones. However, now, this seems to have a slight yet unavoidable change.
Basically, Android Auto 14.9 beta holds the flag that shows the addition of Material You coloring accents that match the phone’s wallpaper. Now, a report presented by Android Authority claims that it looks like Google is performing certain changes to the coloring scheme, making the UI less vibrant.
Specifically, the team found a code in the latest Android Auto 15.1 version that brings certain changes to the system colors. Despite relying on the coloring scheme of the phone’s wallpaper, where colors are very vibrant and punchy, Google appears to be extracting primary colors from the ones generated from the wallpaper. The difference is noticeable, while the coloring scheme is now more on the subtle side, providing a simple yet sophisticated look to the entire UI.

At the same time, the new look of Android Auto is more on the boring side, where colors in the entire UI look very washed out and simple. Also, it’s important to note that this change in the coloring scheme is currently in the beta phase, and it’s possible that Google could make some changes in the future.

Well, Android Auto 15.1 is running in the beta channel, and hopefully, Google focuses on bringing some useful enhancements in the coming future. Nevertheless, a few key features are yet to make their way to the Android Auto platform, such as Light Theme and others, and it’s expected that these might arrive in future updates.
