Will Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 No Longer Receive Software Updates?

Samsung has just unveiled its latest September 2025 security update for all its Galaxy devices; meanwhile, the company has shifted the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 models to a new category of security update list.
While finally, Samsung has ended the software update support for the Galaxy Note 20 series, the company has also changed the placement of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 phones, shifting them from the monthly to the quarterly security update list.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 update strategy receives a significant shift
Since the 3rd generation folding phones are still eligible to receive their dedicated security patches alongside major OS updates, this shift in the placement significantly suggests that Samsung will be delivering software updates to these devices once in four months, instead of getting monthly updates.
Therefore, now, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are no longer eligible to receive monthly security patches. At the same time, the latest September 2025 monthly security patch looks like a more significant update, as this time Samsung has brought about a host of bug fixes and other relevant improvements alongside focusing on improving the overall system security and behavior, rather than bringing any major features or changes that are needed to provide a more secure user experience while also protecting the device against potential threats.
Well, this significant shift eventually suggests that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 models are inching closer to their end of software update support, but for now, the company has shifted the foldables into the quarterly update list, and they still remain under the supervision of Samsung’s software update policy.
With that, Samsung has already started delivering the latest Android 16-based One UI 8 beta program for other older-generation Galaxy devices, other than the Galaxy S25 series, which is scheduled to start receiving the stable version beginning this month. At the same time, others will continue testing the beta phase.
