Samsung led the global memory chip market in Q3 2025, surpassing SK Hynix

Samsung once again proves itself as the leading brand in the global memory chip market, as it has surpassed its rival SK Hynix in Q3 2025.

During Q2 2025, Samsung lost the first position in the memory chip market, as one of its biggest rivals, SK Hynix, secured the leading position. Fortunately, the Q3 2025 results are in favor of Samsung as it has officially regained the global number one position.

A new report from Counterpoint Research (via) revealed that Samsung’s memory segment generated high revenue in the third quarter that reaching 19.4 billion USD, which is 25% more than the previous quarter. Whereas its rival, SK Hynix, is in second position with 17.5 billion USD, which is a 13% increase.

Reportedly, one of the key facts that helps Samsung to regain the top position is the strong demand for popular DRAM and NAND, while the HBM segment grew slowly in the first half of the year, but is now recovering.

Counterpoint analyst Choi Jeong-gu stated, “Samsung struggled in the first half of the year due to lower-than-expected HBM performance, but made a remarkable comeback in the third quarter thanks to its focus on improving quality and production.” He also added,  “Although it has not yet regained the No. 1 position in DRAM, with the rapid deployment of HBM3E and HBM4, it is possible that the company will make a breakthrough next year.”

Noticeably, Counterpoint also predicted that the company will continue to maintain its leading legacy in the Q4 2025, and the reason behind this is that the demand for chips for AI, data centers, and servers increases sharply.
