Google wants to stay ahead of Apple’s iOS in terms of features for its Android ecosystem, and hence, the company is probably working on a feature that resembles Apple’s Name Drop.
Well, Apple introduced a new Name Drop feature for its iOS ecosystem, which allows iPhone owners to either share a person’s contact card or entire information by bringing the top side of their phone closer to the other iPhone or Apple Watch.
Meanwhile, a recent report from Android Authority shows a significant sign that Google seems to be working on a Name Drop-like feature for its Android ecosystem, following the release of calling cards to Android. Basically, the source not just provided some essential details, but also provided the first look at Google’s new feature that eventually matches Apple iOS’ Name Drop.
The source mentioned that they took a deep dive into the latest version (v25.44.32) of Google Play Services beta and uncovered that the newest feature is probably to be known as Gesture Exchange, where strings pointed towards the inclusion of “ndef” (likely, NFC Data Exchange Format). At the same time, a new string code was also spotted with the latest version (v25.46.31), where the feature is in turn named as ContactExchange.

First up, the users will be able to see the screen that initiates Android’s Name Drop-like feature, where they can choose the details they want to share. Even if the users can opt not to share any personal information, they can do it by selecting the Receive only button. Further, the other person will get the contact information without the personal details.
Well, it’s too early, as Android’s Name Drop-like function appears to be in its early stages of development. Nevertheless, let’s just wait for Google to make an official announcement regarding the same.
