Samsung S24’s Colorise AI: Breathe New Life into Black & White Photos with AI Precision

Published

As we are exploring the Galaxy S24, we keep finding some new features; some of them are pushed by new application updates like NavStar, while others arrive with One UI 6.1. Here is the latest one, which is discovered under the Gallery application, named Colorise.

Samsung Colorise AI Brings Black & White Photos to Life

With the help of a new color feature, you can easily convert any black and white photo into a full-color photo. This feature is also powered by AI, so you don’t need to follow a long process to take advantage of this feature.

As shared by IceUniverse, the Galaxy S24 One UI 6.1 comes with a small but significant AI feature that allows users to easily fill colors into colorless photos. For example, he also shared a video where a black-and-white photo turned colorful just by tapping on the colorise button.

If you also want to use this feature, you just need to go to the Gallery and open any colorless photo and wait for some time. Here it will show three options, including background blur, colorise, and remaster. Just tap on the colorise button, then you just need to wait for some time, and after processing you will get the result. At the bottom of the photo, you will get two photo cutouts, which you can choose from, and if you like them, then tap on the save button.

Talking about the availability of the feature, it is expected to be available on more Galaxy devices through One UI 6.1. There is a very high chance that it will be available on the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Z Fold 5 devices.

Samsung One UI 6.1 Aims for 100 Million Downloads

Samsung Electronics introduced its Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year, in January. Now the giant is targeting more than 100 million users worldwide to experience its generative AI novelty.

In February, Samsung announced that it decided to expand the Galaxy AI features through a new One UI 6.1 update rollout beginning in March for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series. As promised, Samsung has already delivered the One UI 6.1 update, along with Galaxy AI features, to these devices.

After its rollout, Samsung has noticed that nearly 8.8 million users are downloading and actively using these Galaxy AI capabilities across Europe. The picture didn’t stop here since the usage figures are increasing continuously, and now, by the end of 2024, the Korean giant is targeting having over 100 million users experiencing its Galaxy AI features across the world.

Galaxy AI consists of a variety of generative AI features, but the most popular AI innovations since launch include:

  • Live Translate, Live Transcribe, Chat Assist, and Circle to Search with Google

The giant also mentioned the percentage metrics of device users across Europe who have downloaded the One UI 6.1 update:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 5: 75%
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra: 80%
  • Galaxy Tab S9: 65%

Transparently, One UI 6.1 is the most popular software update from Samsung yet, and now, with the success of the first rollout of the update in April, Samsung is announcing the second roll-out phase, bringing Galaxy AI to even more Galaxy smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Z fold 4, and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable phone.

One UI 6.1 Arrives for Galaxy S21 FE, A54 & A53 in Canada on May 14th

We are in the first week of May, and as Samsung promised that it would expand the One UI 6.1 update to more Galaxy devices, it has already started rolling it out. However, the update is currently available for some premium devices, while other device users have to wait for it. Now, here is good news for users who are using the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A53. These devices are scheduled to get the One UI 6.1 update in Canada this month.

According to the information shared by Telus, a popular Canadian network carrier, Samsung could introduce the One UI 6.1 update to the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy A54 on May 14. However, it doesn’t claim to provide the One UI 6.1 update to the devices on the exact date, but it is confirmed that the update is on the way to arrive for the nearby device.

For your information, Samsung hasn’t brought the Galaxy AI feature for the flagship devices released in 2021, which includes the Galaxy S21 series as well, which indicates that there are very few chances that the fan edition of the Galaxy S21 model could get those features except Circle to search with Google. Along with this, the other non-flagship devices could only get some existing function enhancements that are not related to AI.

If we talk about the availability of One UI 6.1 in Canada, Samsung hasn’t rolled out the One UI 6.1 update to any devices launched back in 2022 or older, which means the major update may get more delayed for other devices as well. In other countries, the rollout of the latest update may start earlier.

Samsung Skips Galaxy AI Features in One UI 6.1 Update for Some Devices

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have received the new One UI 6.1 update, but unfortunately, it lacks the anticipated Galaxy AI features.

Samsung introduced the One UI 6.1 update on the Galaxy S24 series, which brought the novelty of generative AI features under the title ‘Galaxy AI.’ The brand has rolled out the One UI 6.1 update to 2023’s high-end Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series, and attached all the AI-powered features that are available on the Galaxy S24 series.

Now, after a long tease, finally, Samsung released the One UI 6.1 update, including:

  • Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3

Out of these devices, only the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are the only ones that get the new software customization along with the same set of Galaxy AI features that are already available on newer devices. Unfortunately, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 devices only get the Circle to Search by Google feature and don’t get the most of those generative AI features like their batchmates.

The reason behind not offering the Galaxy AI features to these devices could either be due to a lack of enough processing power and memory, or maybe the giant doesn’t want to offer Galaxy AI to older devices. If the users are thinking that the company might make these features available on older devices later, then this can’t happen since if it comes true, then how would people switch to a new phone? And the brand would not want this.
