WhatsApp is planning to make the platform compatible with exchanging messages across other chatting apps 

Recently, the EU has brought some new rules related to interoperability, which convey that all social media platforms will be able to receive and send messages to each other without the limitation of the same applications. According to the information revealed in the interview with Dick Brouwer, the interoperability feature with their- party chat apps will start with files, text messages, videos, and voice messages sent from one person to another.

WhatsApp to announce its plan to support third-party chats next month

According to EU norms, the big social media giants are significant players in the industry as they hold three major social media applications, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. 

So WhatsApp is already prepared to bring this functionality to the devices. According to the information, the developer team of WhatsApp is working towards building a way for other messaging apps to plug themselves into its service and let people chat across apps, all without breaking the end-to-end encryption it uses to protect the privacy and security of people’s messages. The company is planning to announce it next month.

As far as privacy and security are concerned, WhatsApp has urged other apps to use the Signal encryption protocol which is used by Meta. Besides its services, namesake app, and the Meta-owned messengers, the signal Protocol is publicly disclosed as being used in Google messages and Skype. To send messages, third-party apps must encrypt the content using the signal protocol and package it into message stanzas in the eXtensible markup language. To make it more clear about the approach, the WhatsApp official states —

“We think that the best way to deliver this approach is through a solution built on WhatsApp’s existing client-server architecture,” Brouwer says, adding that it has been working with other companies on the plans. “This effectively means that the approach that we’re trying to take is for WhatsApp to document our client-server protocol and let third-party clients connect directly to our infrastructure and exchange messages with WhatsApp clients.”
