Apple and Samsung Reached The Milestone Of Shipping billion 5G Smartphone Together

Last year was the countable one, since the global cumulative number of 5G smartphones reached 2 billion units in the fourth quarter of 2023.
If the reports are to be believed, back in Q4 of 2023, the milestone of 2 billion took less than 5 years globally, whereas for 4G variants it took six years. Developed markets such as the US, Western Europe, and China accounted for almost 70% of all 5G smartphone shipments.
Samsung and Apple were the top brands of 5G variant smartphones, which shipped a billion units together. Usually both brands come across each other’s way, but this time they touch a milestone of a billion units together.
By this metric, it appears that both Apple and Samsung shipped over 50% of all the 5G variant smartphones in the global market. Apple started selling 5G-powered iPhones after the iPhone 12 series. According to Counterpoint Research’s report, it is known that the introduction of a 5G-powered iPhone accelerated the adoption of 5G smartphones in the market.
More than 200 million 5G smartphone units were shipped globally in a single quarter, just in the fourth quarter of 2023. In developed markets, 5G smartphones contribute nearly 80% of the overall shipment. Mostly, it was the premium-segment devices above $600 that were 5G. To authorize more growth in 5G shipments, smartphone original equipment manufacturers are trying hard to add 5G capabilities as a common feature for their mid-range gadgets as well. It is also known that emerging markets, such as Southeast Asia, will drive the momentum for the next billion 5G smartphone shipments.
