Don’t Expect a Major Camera Upgrade Before the Galaxy S28

Samsung is supposed to debut the Galaxy S28 series two years later in 2028, and until then, it’s not planning to offer any major camera upgrade.

The Korean tech giant ritually launches its latest Galaxy-S series iteration each year: for instance, last year it launched the Galaxy S24 lineup, introduced the Galaxy S25 lineup earlier this year, and is now gearing up for the next-generation Galaxy S26 lineup to debut next year. Following this ritual, the company will launch the Galaxy S28 lineup in 2028, if the series carries on.

Along with each latest Galaxy S-series, Samsung introduces notable camera upgrades to the Ultra model, but from next year, it won’t be the case anymore. A reliable tipster, Ice Univere, shared a post on X (via), stating, “Samsung mobile phones have given up on cameras.” These words claim that Samsung’s mobile division is being weighed down by the rest of the company.

According to the report, internal dynamics force its smartphone team to use in-house components, such as Exynos chipsets, uncompetitive ISOCELL sensors, and expensive memory & displays, instead of going to other brands.

Now, instead of doing a massive investment in new camera hardware, the company plans to minimize upgrades to cut costs and maintain profitability. However, currently there’s no official word regarding this report yet, so it remains to be seen what will happen next, and whether the next-gen photography hardware from the Galaxy S26 or even the Galaxy S27 series may satisfy fans.
