Samsung just debuted its latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 without S-Pen compatibility, but now it seems to be bringing the functionality back to future Galaxy Z Fold models with its new technology.
Last week, the Korean tech giant launched three of the latest foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which features a super slim design, an upgraded camera, advanced AI tools, and more that a flagship-level smartphone should have to deliver an Ultra-like experience. But unfortunately, it lacks S Pen compatibility.
Now, a new report from one of the reliable blogs, ETNews, revealed that Samsung is looking forward to bringing back S Pen compatibility to next-generation Galaxy Z Fold phones with its new technology.
According to the report, in case there is enough demand, the company is willing to bring back the S Pen to the upcoming Z Fold series along with a newer technology. Reportedly, Kang Min-seok, executive director of Samsung Electronics’ MX business division, said, “To make things possible, the company is researching and developing thinner and more innovative technologies.”
The current S Pen is based on Wacom’s EMR technology, which needs a digitizer but not a battery. On the rivalry side, Apple Pencil for iPads doesn’t even need a digitizer either, but it requires a battery inside the stylus.
Previously, it was reported that Samsung collabs with South Korean firm HiDeep to develop an S Pen technology that doesn’t need a dedicated digitizer and battery. Kang also revealed that the company is tracing products with a balance and not just aiming for thinness and lightness. Currently, the tri-fold (Galaxy G Fold) is next in the pipeline to debut, so it could have S Pen compatibility. However, the report doesn’t mention any specific device name that brings the S Pen functionality back with newer technology, so it will be interesting to see exactly what will happen next.
