Recently, Samsung released the January 2023 security update for carrier-locked and unlocked units of the Galaxy S21 series in the US. The update includes a number of bug fixes and improvements, as well as a new security patch. It is now available for carriers – Verizon and T-Mobile. The update is rolling out gradually and should reach all devices within a week or so.
The carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy S21 device is receiving the latest security update on some mobile networks, including Verizon and T-Mobile. Users can identify the latest update by the build version G991USQU5DWA8, G996USQU5DWA8, and G998USQU5DWA8 for Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, respectively, on the Verizon network.
While the devices affiliated with T-Mobile received the update with build numbers G991USQS5DWA5, G996USQS5DWA5, and G998USQS5DWA5 for Galaxy S21 general, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, respectively, however, the unlocked variant already received the update a few days ago.
If we talk about the January 2023 security patch update in detail, the update doesn’t carry any new features; it just comes with some patches, which are included by Samsung and Google together, that address several security vulnerabilities. Apart from this, the update may also come with general improvements that optimize the inbuilt function of the device.
Moreover, the update may bring some minimal features that improve the overall performance of the device and make your device more stable by enhancing the running functions.
